Color Poster Series
Process
Over the Winter of 2022 I was gifted the Designer’s Dictionary of Color by Sean Adams. As I was reading and learned more and more about color associations I figured it’d be fun to flex my knowledge in the form of posters. So I began working on a series of posters based on specific colors.
Blue
Blue
The color Blue can represent just about anything. As the quote I used states, “It communcates honesty and loyalty. Blue is associated with the sky and water, power and authority.” As a result I decided it might be best to make a silly collage of everything blue between the water and animals of the natural world to the security and dependibility of the cast my dad had to wear after breaking his wrist.
Olive
Olive
For the olive I was really stuck by the description of how the color can represent both peace and war. I had recently taken a picture of a dove at my local park and decided to use it to represent both. From there I figured it may be more interesting to use color in a color poster sparingly so that when it is used, it’s far more eye catching. I grayscaled the dove and made the rest of the poster black and gray. I drew an olive branch in the dove’s mouth to represent peace and a big X over the dove’s eye in order to represent war.
