The Process
Wreathes, Leaves, and Paper Dreams was my first ever piece of freelance work. The small business is owned and operated out of my home town, Reading, Pennsylvania and it sells primarily paper crafts and shadow boxes. When I first set out to work on the logo I noticed that a large majority of similar small businesses fall into the problem of having their logos be far too detailed to be recognizable as a logo. I wanted to create a logo that still managed to capture the fun of crafts while avoiding this issue, so I created a detailed version for larger signage and a less detailed version to be used for iconography. In addition I added a small shadow to the leaf in order to add depth and make it look like one of the shadow boxes that the business creates. This color scheme was eventually decided on after a consultation with the owner and while personally I don’t think these colors are eye catching on their own, in the context of the pastel’s used in most of the craft industry logos, the earthy tones really manage to cut through the competition.
